Better With Age: Aditi Mayer

In honor of Earth Day, we visited the home of climate activist, sustainable fashion thought leader, photojournalist, and writer Aditi Mayer. Aditi explores the intersections of style, sustainability, and social justice to use fashion as a vehicle for climate action, having gotten her start in 2013 after learning about the Rana Plaza Factory Collapse. Seeing the fashion industry’s disproportionate impact on people of color globally, Aditi looked to understand the historical and sociopolitical underpinnings that allow the fashion industry to function in a colonial manner, rooted in the exploitation and extraction of both labor and the natural environment. She has been celebrated by Vogue, the New York Times, National Geographic, and more.

Aditi’s work centers around challenging the culture of disposability in today’s world, so it is no surprise that her home is filled with sentimental pieces passed down from family members, items crafted by artisans from her travels worldwide, and durable pieces intended to last a lifetime.

Tour Aditi’s home and check out her favorite old things, including an Art-Deco-style coffee table found on Kaiyo.
