Philippe Starck is a French architect, designer, and visionary who is celebrated as one of the top creators in the world. Starck made a name for himself designing Parisian nightclubs in the 1970s and eventually opened his own studio. Today his designs can be seen in museums around the world.

The Louis Ghost Chair was inspired by the upholstered armchair that was prevalent during Louis XVI’s reign. Starck’s version gained popularity for its modern, transparent appearance. The designer created an entire line of Ghost products for Kartell, including a sister chair called the Victoria Ghost Chair. These chairs are made from polycarbonate plastic, and the plastic is injected into a single mold, meaning that the entire piece is made in one fell swoop.
