Arne Jacobsen is one of the most celebrated Danish designers in history. He began designing in the 1920s while studying architecture in Copenhagen. After graduating, he worked on projects for public sites in the city. Jacobsen’s work was characterized by his attention to detail and imaginative approach, which helped shape the landscape of Danish design.

Jacobsen designed the Egg Chair for Fritz Hansen in 1958, specifically for the lobby at the Copenhagen Royal Hotel. The Egg’s sculptural shape made the chair an immediate hit. The Egg is one of the most well-recognized examples of mid-century modern design, and is as significant today as it was during Jacobsen’s lifetime.
