Spotlight: Herman Miller Eames Lounge Chair

After marrying in 1941, Charles and Bernice Alexandra “Ray” Eames opened a studio in Venice Beach, California. They began creating furniture by molding plywood. The Eames’ are recognized as two of the most influential designers in furniture history and modern art.

The Eames Lounge Chair was designed in 1956 for Herman Miller, and very quickly it became a post-war status symbol. Today it is one of the most iconic furniture designs in America, and is featured in New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
