Better With Age: Gaby Ulloa

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re shining a light on creatives in our community whose heritages inspire them in their crafts.

Our thirty-second episode features Gabriela Ulloa – a Cuban-American multimedia journalist, writer, and consultant published in outlets including The Cut, The New York Times, and Architectural Digest. Her storytelling centers change-makers, identity, Latinx culture, wellness, and style. Gaby is also the co-host of Thoughts May Vary, a podcast living at the intersection of mental health, nuance, and community.

As the daughter of Cuban immigrants who started from scratch when they came to the United States, Gaby was acutely aware growing up that “stuff is just stuff,” and can be transient. As a writer and storyteller, Gaby’s love for nostalgia supports her belief that pre-loved pieces carry more value than new. To her, participating in the circular economy is an exciting and sustainable way to consume and evolve her space. Gaby is constantly building her collection of art, objects, and books – all of which have meaningful stories, memories, and associations.

Tour Gaby’s home and check out her favorite old things, including her dad’s framed rock collection, and a Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams chairs – found on Kaiyo.
